In 2009, our CEO/Co-founder
John Cheng started a company called
Playnomics. Playnomics was a predictive analytics platform that helped mobile apps and free-to-play mobile games monetize by helping developers better understand their players using segmentation and personalization. This allowed customization for messaging when it came to running retention campaigns, nurturing new spenders, and monetizing non-spenders. His company was acquired by
Unity Technologies, where it became the basis for the Unity Analytics team. This team was responsible for powering the data collection and analysis for that data from over one billion mobile devices worldwide and helping those game developers better understand their players to create games that were more “sticky” (kept players coming back) and generated more revenue.
In late 2018, John and his Director of Engineering at Unity, Michael Birk, decided to strike out on their own with Business Development Director Angelo Ferro to start a new company. They wanted to take what they learned from the years at Playnomics and Unity together and apply it to a new field to help passionate founders and a broader set of companies. The trio decided to start Baotris as a ecommerce growth accelerator that would use data and analytics to give mom and pop Shopify store owners an advantage in marketing that in their experience was only available to large corporations.
Since its start, Baotris has always acted as an extension of our client’s teams - planning and executing work right alongside them. Through testing and various experiments, we’ve found a way that any shop can be successful- by discovering their target buyer persona and customizing the marketing strategy and content to speak directly to their wants, needs, and problems. Our target audience development gives us a north star in our marketing strategies so we’re only concentrating on speaking to one or two groups of people at a time, giving our clients a consistent brand message and a cohesive marketing strategy. By focusing on the target audience’s buyer journey and meeting them at every step of the funnel with the right message at the right time, we help them move along from information discovery to purchase, review, and referral.
Because data and analytics are at the core of who we are, we make sure all of our efforts are tested and evaluated in respect to the KPIs we set in planning, testing enables us to maintain agility by avoiding lengthy efforts. Instead, we consistently launch projects to gather insights on their efficacy, amplify successful ones, and discard ineffective ones.
